Security Cage for Photocontrols – Theft Deterrent Solution

Security Cage for Photocontrols – Theft Deterrent Solution

When deploying auxiliary power, IoT devices, cameras, or wireless access points on street-light poles, installers often use a power-tap - a plug-in adapter that fits between the photocontrol receptacle and the luminaire. This configuration draws limited auxiliary power (typically 120–277 VAC) from the light pole circuit without altering the luminaire’s normal switching function.

A power-tap effectively transforms the lighting pole into a multi-purpose infrastructure point, allowing you to power devices like:
  1. Small-cell radios or Wi-Fi access points
  2. Environmental or traffic sensors
  3. Security cameras and smart city IoT nodes
  4. Wireless gateways and control modules

Protecting the photocontrol assembly can ensure the luminaire stays operational and your added equipment remains powered reliably. To protect, especially low box-mounted photocontrols, an installer can consider a caging solution like this. It is ideal for poles/boxes in public or semi-public spaces where theft/vandalism risk is elevated.

This caging solution offers key features such as:
  1. Heavy-duty 1/8″ steel cage, powder-coat black finish — built for outdoor pole environments.
  2. Includes (4) 8 ½″ mounting screws + rubber washers for weather sealing.
  3. Designed to retrofit over existing photocontrol/receptacle assemblies and power-tap setups.
  4. Light weight but high durability.
