802.11 Standards Recent Security Vulnerabilities
Research dubbed “Fragment and Forge: Breaking Wi-Fi Through Frame Aggregation and Fragmentation” which was published on May 11, 2021 at
https://www.fragattacks.com, showed some of the vulnerabilities found in the 802.11 standards.
802.11 standards have evolved over the years to cater to more speeds due to the drive for fast connection with low latencies. With the
Wi-Fi 6 and
Wi-Fi 6E evolution, capable devices can achieve more speeds.
The reason why security for Wi-Fi is important is because of its use in the Internet of things. Many devices can be affected.
In response to these discovered vulnerabilities, Cambium, for example, is working to release firmware updates for some of their models such cnPilot and Enterprise Wi-Fi 6. Other models like ePMP 1000 and Xirrus models are under evaluation and firmware updates could be coming soon. See some of Cambium's Wi-Fi devices
